Appreciate

Choosing a creator support page

A Patreon alternative for simple creator support

Appreciate is a Patreon alternative for creators who want financial support without setting up a membership program. People can appreciate your work once or monthly and add a message if they want. You do not need to promise rewards or make extra content. Patreon offers a broader home for memberships, posts, purchases, and community.

The short version

Choose around the relationship you want with your audience. Patreon gives you tools to build an ongoing membership and publish work for different audiences. Appreciate gives someone a simple way to thank you for work they already value.

Patreon also supports free memberships and one-time digital purchases. It is not limited to paid subscriptions, and creators do not have to use every feature.

What Patreon is designed for

Patreon combines a creator page with publishing, memberships, and community tools. You can offer paid tiers, share posts with members, and use community chats. Free membership lets people follow a creator without paying; paid offerings can sit alongside it.

One-time sales are another option: creators can sell digital products, individual posts, or collections without asking the buyer to join a membership.

What Appreciate is designed for

Appreciate is a support page for the work you already make. Someone can thank you for a drawing, a piece of writing, or a video and send financial appreciation with an optional message. You can keep publishing that work wherever your audience already finds it.

There is no membership program, shop, or gated-content feed to set up. The page keeps the focus on the appreciation itself.

When Patreon may be the better fit

Patreon may suit you better if you want a structured membership program, different levels of access, member benefits, or a place to publish gated content. Its community and publishing tools can be useful parts of that relationship, rather than extra features you have to work around.

If selling access to posts or digital products matters to your plan, Appreciate is not a substitute for those tools.

When Appreciate may be the better fit

Appreciate may suit you if your audience already enjoys your work and you just want to give them somewhere to say thank you. You can receive one-time or monthly support without planning tiers, scheduling bonus material, or deciding which rewards belong at which price.

That simplicity is a product choice, not a promise of more earnings or a claim that Patreon makes every creator offer rewards.

Support for the content you already create

Do you need memberships or rewards?

No. Appreciate does not require memberships, rewards, bonus posts, or exclusive content. Supporters are appreciating what you already create, not buying a new obligation from you.

Patreon does not universally require exclusive content either. Its paid-membership setup makes benefits optional, and custom pledges can exist without tier rewards. What you promise your members is a separate decision from which platform you use.

One-time support vs ongoing support

On Appreciate, one-time support is the default and monthly appreciation is optional. The original appreciation is created once; later monthly renewals do not create new messages or add to the appreciation count.

Patreon's subscription billing charges when a member joins and renews monthly. It also offers one-time digital purchases, so it is not a subscription-only platform. Buying a post or product is a different experience from sending appreciation for work someone has already shared.

Patreon supports custom pledges, but a new member joining through a tier cannot choose a custom amount at that point. Existing members can edit their pledge amount. On Appreciate, supporters can edit the total from the cost of one configured appreciation up to $10,000 per payment.

Messages and appreciation

A message on Appreciate is optional. Financial appreciation can be sent without one. A message becomes public only with the supporter's publication consent and the creator's decision to publish it; the public Wall does not show the money paid.

Patreon has communication features too, including community chats. The difference is the emphasis: Appreciate gives a personal thank-you a place beside financial support, while Patreon offers tools for an ongoing community.

How do Appreciate fees compare with Patreon?

Appreciate keeps 5% of each successful paid appreciation, based on the actual amount paid. Payment processing fees can also apply.

Patreon's standard platform fee is 10% for creator pages published after August 4, 2025. Continuously published older pages may retain legacy pricing; unpublishing and republishing can move a page to the standard plan. The platform fee covers memberships and one-time purchases.

Patreon also has payment processing fees, with rates depending on payment method, location, and currency. Currency conversion, payout fees, and applicable taxes may affect the total cost. A headline platform percentage is not the whole bill, and neither service is universally the cheaper choice.

Creator payment eligibility

Paid appreciation currently requires an eligible U.S. Stripe Standard account and is received in USD. The connection must meet verification and payment-readiness requirements. Availability does not extend to every country.

Patreon supports multiple payment and payout currencies, including USD, EUR, and GBP. Its payout methods include bank transfer, PayPal, and Payoneer where available. Options depend on country and currency, and the payout country must match the receiving account information.

Receiving money on Patreon involves withdrawing from a creator balance. Check its current payout guide for your location rather than assuming every country or payment method works. Neither this comparison nor another provider's coverage expands Appreciate's eligibility.

Check Appreciate creator eligibility

Which one should you choose?

Choose Patreon if memberships, publishing, or a paid community are central to what you want to build. Consider Appreciate if you want a simple creator support page for meaningful words and financial appreciation, without developing a separate offering for supporters.

Check payment eligibility first. Then choose the experience you want to give the people who care about your work.
